My Spin on Driving Academy’s New Truck Challenges
Hey, truck sim fans! I’ve got some cool news from SCS Software about Euro Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator. With the 1.54 update, they’ve tossed three slick new trucks into the Driving Academy mode: the Volvo FH Series 5, Volvo FH Series 6, and Iveco S-Way. These rigs first showed up in ETS2 back in December, and now they’re yours to test out in the Academy’s training grounds.
If you haven’t tried Driving Academy yet, it’s this free feature they added last October that’s all about leveling up your trucking game. Think of it like a virtual boot camp—five chapters of tasks, from nailing the basics to sweating through tight reverses and parking nightmares. I love how it’s built from years of player feedback, especially from folks who’ve used these sims to prep for real-life trucking. Now, with this “Truck Driving Proficiency” module, they’re ramping up the difficulty, and these new trucks are the stars of the show.
Driving the Volvo FH Series 5, Series 6, or Iveco S-Way feels fresh every time—each one’s got its own vibe, perfect for tackling the tougher scenarios. Plus, there’s some sweet loot if you finish the first module: a blue traffic cone to hang in your cab (cute touch!) and a Driving Academy paint job you can slap on your rig in the main game. Who doesn’t love a little customization?
Heads-up, though—the 1.54 Open Beta with all this goodness isn’t on Mac OS yet. They’re working on it, so Mac folks, hang tight. Since it’s a beta, don’t be shocked if you hit some glitches or crashes. If you’re up for playing guinea pig, SCS would appreciate your bug reports on their forums (there’s a spot just for that). Me? I’m tempted to dive in, but I might wait for the polished version—less stress, you know?
I’m stoked to see how these trucks handle in the Academy! If you give them a spin, hit up SCS on Twitter, Instagram, or wherever—they’re all over social media. For now, I’m just gonna keep trucking and dreaming of those new rides. Catch you on the road!
